Application deadline: November 1, 2008

DePauw University invites nominations and applications for an award to support a one-year appointment for 2009-10 of a visiting scholar for any academic discipline. The award will be $50,000, which may be used for any combination of supplemental sabbatical compensation and professional expenses. In addition, up to $5,000 will be available for organizing programming on campus, such as reading groups, speakers or seminars. On-campus housing will also be provided.

  • This Schaenen Scholar is expected to
-- advance research for publication and/or create teaching materials on a topic of ethical importance; and

-- contribute to DePauw’s intellectual community, especially its emphasis on undergraduate ethics education.

Options for contributing to the DePauw intellectual community will include teaching or team teaching a course, offering several public lectures at the Prindle Institute for Ethics, (http://prindleinstitute.depauw.edu), contributing to events at the Institute, participating in a faculty seminar on ethical issues, and/or consulting with other on-going, student and faculty, ethics-related projects.

A faculty panel will review the significance of the projects proposed for the fellowship year and select the finalist by late Fall 2008.

Submit applications with a letter of interest, a c.v., and a statement of proposed projects and contributions to the DePauw’s Ethics Institute to Neal B. Abraham, Executive Vice President, Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of the Faculty, DePauw University, Greencastle, IN 46135 (nabraham@depauw.edu) by November 1, 2008.
