Paige Penrod, ‘10, Undergraduate Ethics Intern, Biochemistry Major, Barrington, Illinois

On Medical Ethics:
"I am intrigued by the ethics involved in practicing medicine.  With regard to medical service, the choices that doctors need to make are especially striking.  To whom should medications go when supplies are limited?  How does one simultaneously respect culture and promote health?  These and many other questions sparked my interest in the study of ethics and prompted me to apply to be an intern at Prindle.  It is my hope that through my work at the institute, I may develop a firmer ground in the wide field of ethics, as well as inspire my peers to explore the ethical dilemmas relevant to our time."

Paige Penrod is a senior Biochemistry major and plans to attend medical school in fall 2010. Excelling academically, Paige is a National Merit Scholarship Finalist and a Presidential Rector Scholar. During the fall semester of the 2008-09 academic year, Paige represented DePauw at the National Conference on Ethics in America at West Point and studied public health in Geneva, Switzerland, during the spring semester.
