Robert Bottoms, formerly the President of DePauw University, is serving as the first Director of the Center, beginning in the fall of 2008. His vision and leadership have shaped the profile of the Institute, and he will continue to provide its direction and focus in the coming years. One of the distinctive features of the Prindle Institute for Ethics has been its strong administrative and alumni support. President Emeritus Bottoms provided the initiative for the Institute with wide support from DePauw’s faculty. Working with Robert Bottoms, Martha Rainbolt serves as Coordinator of the Institute. Linda Clute was appointed in January 2008 to serve as Assistant Director of the Institute.

The Director of the Institute is advised by two committees: the Faculty Advisory Committee and the Student Advisory Committee. The membership of these groups was selected in an open process which encouraged participation from across the curriculum and from a wide range of perspectives and backgrounds.

  • The Faculty Advisory Committee, which includes the Frederick Visiting Professor and the Schaenen Scholar, advises the Director on policy and programming. In addition, these faculty members serve as a group to promote the Prindle Institute’s curricular and programming initiatives on campus. This committee is an appointed sub-committee of the Faculty Development Committee and has a representative from the Committee on Academic Policy and Planning. • The Student Advisory Committee serves as both a policy and a planning group, which advises the Director. These students provide energy, commitment and multiple perspectives. The students also serve as Prindle Interns; they will act as hosts for visitors to the Institute, keep the web page current, publish an on-line newsletter and, most importantly, help to plan programs for students.
